We now operate through five affiliates in the country in the Exploration & Production, Gas, Marketing & Services and Refining & Chemicals segments. In the New Energies segment, Total holds a 18% interest in Amyris, a U.S.-based biotechnology company. The Group has more than 2,500 professionals committed to make better energy in Brazil.
A long term Commitment with Brazil
Brazil is considered a pivotal country for Total global growth strategy. The potential of the oil and gas reserves, such as the Libra field, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, the abundance of natural resources, in addition to the known expertise of local human resources are very attractive to our long-term investments in the country.
Total is present in Brazil through five affiliates. Total E&P do Brasil operates in the Exploration & Production sector, and has a broad and diversified portfolio, composed of 17 offshore blocks, mainly focused on deep offshore. The company’s main assets in the country are the Libra field, in the pre-salt area – Total is part of the consortium with 20% interest – and the five operated blocks in Foz do Amazonas Basin. Drilling activites in these blocks should start in 2017, once the environmental licence is issued by the environmental regulator. In 2016, Total sealed an Strategic Alliance with Petrobras, which includes the transfer to Total of 22.5% of participation in the concession area named Iara (Santos basin), 35% of participation and operatorship of the Lapa field (Santos basin), and 50% of interest in Termobahia, composed of two cogeneration plants - Rômulo de Almeida and Celso Furtado. The deal is still under approval by the competent regulatory agencies.
Total Lubrificantes rises in the local market with a complete range of products for the automotive, industrial and agricultural segments. It is the Brazilian lubricants company with the largest number of homologation within major automakers.
Total Gás & Eletricidade takes part in important projects in the national gas sector, such as Gasoduto Brasil-Bolívia. In the Refining & Chemicals segment, Hutchinson is a global specialist in sealing systems for several industries, such as automotive and aerospace. Lastly, n the New Energies sector, we operate in Brazil through the U.S.-based biotechnology company Amyris, which develops aviation biofuel from sugarcane.
