Total receives entrepreneurship award in Brazil
Total Exploração & Produção do Brasil received the Brazilian entrepreneurship award “Rio + Empreendedor 2014”, in the “Oil & Gas” category. The award ceremony was held on December 15, at the prestigious Copacabana Palace Hotel in Rio.
Organized by Lide Rio, an international group of business leaders, and Rio Negócios, the official investment agency for the city of Rio de Janeiro, the award honors companies, organizations and senior officials responsible for managing development initiatives for the Rio de Janeiro state.
Denis Palluat de Besset, Total E&P do Brasil General Manager and Group’s representative in Brazil, received the award on behalf of Total. The company was recognized for its contribution to the Brazilian oil and gas sector through its growing activities and investments in the country.
As Total E&P do Brasil’s chief executive over the past four years, a period when Total has significantly increased its presence in Brazil, Denis Palluat de Besset oversaw the acquisition of 11 new exploration licenses in 2013, including 20% of the giant Libra field.
“We are very honored and pleased to receive this award as the State of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil have become key areas in the worldwide oil and gas sector.
This high potential prompted us, in 2010, to make the country a major focus of our exploration and production strategy, and this reward attests the success of its implementation. Brazil is definitely a country of the future for Total and we intend to keep on investing in our local operations,” said Denis Palluat de Besset.
Total has been present in Brazil since 1975 in several business segments such as E&P, Gas & Power, Refining & Chemicals, and more recently in New Energies. Total has a large and diversified E&P portfolio off the Brazilian coast composed of 13 offshore blocks, seven of them as the operator. While capitalizing on its worldwide knowledge and expertise, Total will continue dedicating significant resources in order to explore and develop those assets in the years to come.
